The Scottish deerhound is one of the largest, leggy breeds in the world. As the name reflects, this unique dog breed is originally created in Scotland long time before recorded history. The Scottish deerhound is a perfect courser that was used to hunt red deer; they are the fastest in chasing down the prey thanks to their long legs.

Generally, this breed is much heavier and bigger than the greyhound breed, but both are built in a similar way and meant for speed and active tasks. Deerhounds can reach up to 32 inches and weigh more than 100 pounds. Although they aren’t used for hunting anymore, the Scottish deerhound is still bred by enthusiasts who are passionate about this unique breed.
