The Saint Bernard was originally created in northern Italy and in the Swiss Alps as a rescue dog. This breed was trained mainly for rescue reasons since they are highly intelligent and have a good sense of danger. The Saint Bernard can reach between 25 to 30 inches tall and weigh more than 140 pounds. Although they were originally trained as rescue dogs that achieved many successful missions in saving people’s lives, they are now simple family dogs that are very popular for being friendly, gentle, loving and absolutely great with children and also kittens.
